"Pass the Dutchie."
For the past year, my 5-year old son has requested the following song as he heads to slumberland: Musical Youth's "Pass the Dutchie." Yes, that herbal classic about not hogging the tobaccy.
When I began reading Boy George's autobiography, I began listening to Culture Club in my car. The end result is that my son's new "favorite" song, and which finally displaced "Pass the Dutchie", is "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?" It is this song that I hear about ten times a night now, not counting how often he makes me play it in the car. (Despite the hundreds of times I've heard it in just the past few weeks, I have still yet to tire of it; Jon Moss' percussion is unreal).
Well, as I was reading Boy George's book, he tells us that the song that finally knocked "Pass The Dutchie" from its number one position in the UK was "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?"
It is by a small, small thread that the universe is held together.
